At the beginning of March 2019 we were pleasantly surprised to found out that White Oak Conservation, located in Florida, was unleashing some info on its Rhinos. This institution never gives info on its Rhinos (it hosts three species of them: Southern White, Southern Black and Indian!) and has always answered negatively to our request of info through e-mail means.
Fortunately, this time the facility decides to share some important info and we are going to summarize them, since much has been widely written on the web.

In November 2018, a baby Southern Black Rhino was born underweight and unable to nurse properly. His name is Tidbit and is the only (known) Southern Black Rhino born in a Facility outside Africa in 2018 and the first in White Oak after 13 years (!). Australia is the only other nation that was able to produce two Southern Black Rhino calves in 2017 (Mesi and Pampoen).
Tidbit is being hand-reared by keepers at White Oak and according to the videos that show him playing with them, he is absolutely thriving. In January 2019, Tidbit shares his days with a “buddy”: a male Mountain Bongo (a rare antelope) called Tonks. Probably Tonks itself is an orfan and he is being hand-reared by Keepers, too.
Unfortunately, since White Oak is almost sealed in sharing info we do not know more about Tidbit: when exactly was he born? Who are is parents?
We ask you, if you happen to have more info, to share them with us through our official pages!

White Oak reveales also the birth of a female Indian Rhino called Kali. Here we know a little bit more: she was born at the end of December 2018, she is the first calf for mum Shomili, a young female that arrived in White Oak from San Diego Safari Park few years before, and her dad should be a male officially called “Fitzgerald”. As far as we can understand, she is reared by her own mum that has done a great job so far.
Again, if you have more info or corrections, feel free to contact us through our official pages.
