Kerkrade announced on 30 January 2017 that its solo resident, white rhino bull Thabo, will hopefully meet a female companion in spring 2017.

Thabo was born in April 2011 in Beekse Bergen (NL) to mom Makoubu and dad Miguelin. He was transferred in Kerkrade few years later along with his father and stepbrother, Sam.

Miguelin and Thabo didn’t get on very well and the result was a great wound on Thabo’s leg. Zoo staff was able to heal that in little time while it was decided to move Miguelin in order to avoid any other fight. Miguelin infact was transferred to Osnabruck (DE) where he resides now.

Unfortunately for Thabo a friendly fight with his stepbrother Sam resulted in the wound to open again.

Sam was moved too and reached another bachelore holder (Santo Iniacio, PL) in the late 2015.

Overall it took over 18 months to declare Thabo’s wound healed.

After almost ten years of bachelor holding Kerkrade is now going to receive a female white rhino in spring 2017 switching into a breeding facility.
