While in Utah (USA) rhino lady Princess has three teeth successfully removed, as you can see here, there are some changes in the US Southern White Rhino Breeding Program.

Gladys Porter Zoo(Texas, USA) has finally announced that a new male rhino is encountering the resident rhino ladies: as we report a few months ago, the new rhino is a young male from a private breeding center that arrived in March 2018. He has been kept in quarantine, but in August this year he met the first of the two females, Abby, while in October he was introduced to Abby’s mum, rhino Julie. Bebop, this is the male’s name, is meant to became the breeding bull in the next years. We do have some perplexities since it has been demonstrated that a breeding herd formed by a mother and her own daughter is rarely successful, as you can see in Birmingham Zoo (Alabama, USA) where Laptop and Ajabu have not produced a calf yet. Otherwise, some miracles do happen sometimes: in North Carolina Linda #1226 and her daughter Kit had two calves in Summer 2018, but this is a rare event. So we can only wait, cross our fingers and see.

Eire Zoo (Pennsylvania) has recently welcomed two new males, after the departures of both its former residents, rhinos Victor and Spike. There are no info on this two new guys, that have no names at the moment and they’re said to be both 6 years old and are half-brothers.

We now change location and report some interesting news regarding the European Eastern Black Rhino metapopulation. Rhino lady Olmoti , born in 2014, has been transferred to the Czech Republic where she is supposed to remain till her final destination: Rwanda. She is meant with other 4 rhinos, all born and raised in Europe, to form a new breeding herd for this Nation. We don’t know the names of all her companions, except for one: Mandela, a rhino bull born in January 2015 in Danemark. He also will be transferred to the Czech Republic, probably at the end of the month.
