Summer has been an intensive transfer period for Europe. While 6 Eastern Black rhinos were sent to Africa, the young one called Dayo, almost 5 years old, was leaving his third home for a new one. The young bull left the Netherlands to reach Hungary. He arrived in Győr Zoo (HU) on 7 June 2019 reaching the two other females that were transferred the prior month: Mana and Wanda. Since both females are quite older it is unlikely that the rhino bull could be introduced to them for breeding purpose. Having the zoo said it can host 5-6 rhinos probably there will be a young female that could arrive in the near future, even if there is no information about this.

As previously announced, Berlin Zoo is renewing the Indian Rhino exhibit, so its two female Indian Rhinos resident needed a temporary new home: on 1 July 2019 Jhansi (29 years old) and Narayani (32 years old) arrived at Dierenrijk in Mierlo (NL). The sources reports that they will stay there for about 2 years and then they will be back in Berlin. They were reached, on 3 July 2019, by a young Indian Rhino male from Zoo de Beauval (FR), Gainda (almost 3 years old). According some sources the young male will be introduced to the oldest rhinos for breeding purpose, saying that they could teach him how to reproduce. In our opinion it is very unlikely, since Gainda is really young at the moment and the females are quite too old to reproduce (even if math in this kind of situations has little space). After the return of this two females to Berlin, Gainda will probably be joined by a young female, which whom he should create a breeding couple.

(We’d like to thank Worldrhino Teammate Luke for both the transfer notifications).

Toronto Zoo (CA) announced on 5 June 2019 that Indian Rhino Nandu, first surviving child for resident couple Ashakiran and Vishnu was going to be transferred to Safari Niagara (CA). We are waiting for official confirmation from the receiving facility.
