Pairi Daiza (BL) announced a few weeks ago that Southern White Rhino Madiba was confirmed pregnant for the very first time. We hoped that even the second rhino Eleonore could be confirmed too: now we can announce that she is expecting!

This is surely a great achievement for Pairi Daiza because it took three male switches to have both females pregnant. In 2016 Eleonore gave birth to a calf, Sethemba, while there was no pregnancy for Madiba. The third male, Joby, was coming from another zoo where he was not able in years to breed with the local females: this again demonstrates that the transfer organized from EEP coordinators had a double success!

Madiba’s calf is expected for Autumn 2019, while Eleonore’s second calf should be delivered too in 2019: we assume that the due date should be around the end of the year.
