Here you can find an article from worldrhino.com teammate Yuko, talking about the newest black rhino born in Japan! He’s the second one this year after little Ran. With the low meta-population currently residing in the country, Japan is doing a really good job!

“On 2 September a black rhino was born at Tobe Zoo in Ehime in Japan from mother Coo, 18, and father Storm, 17.

The baby was immediately nursed from his mom just 10 minutes after his birth, when he weighted 30 kg!

He is the first male black rhino born in 8 years in Japan: the one born in 2011 is his brother, the first calf of Coo and Storm. In fact three female black rhinos were born in a row from 2012 to 2019 in Japanese zoos.

We are looking forward for his naming, because his father’s name is Storm, his grandfather HailStone and his brother Rai (Thunder in Japanese)!!

There are currently 22 black rhinos (10 males and 12 females) in Japanese zoos.
