On 25 May 2019 Wagasa, a female 46 years old Southern White Rhino passed away: she was already progressively getting worse with the age and she was unable of standing or moving around. In the end, it was decided that humanely euthanizing her was the best thing to do.

Wagasa was one of two female Southern white rhinoceros transported from the Knoxville Zoo as part of the White Rhinoceros Species Survival Plan and she arrived at Rolling Hills Zoo (Kansas,USA) in October 1996.

Wagasa was born in South Africa and, after a series of transfers, she landed in Rolling Hills Zoo, where she spent the second half of her life in the Zoo’s new rhino barn.
