Southern White Rhino lady Kwanzaa confirmed to be a matriarch. She has given birth to five calves before and she acted as a perfect mother for them all.

Arnhem (NL) announced few days ago that she is again expecting a calf. Since a rhino’s skin is very thick, a transaddominal ultrasound procedure can’t be performed. The only way to determine the health of the calf along with the sex is through a transrectal ultrasound, but that means the mum should be partially sedated. At the moment, Zoo assured there is not necessity to performe such procedure, since Kwanzaa is very well in her maternity stall.

Zoo will make available a webcam for mum Kwanzaa, here.
