With great joy we report that Pairy Daiza (BL) confirmed that Southern White Rhino Madiba, almost 11 years old, is confirmed pregnant! An echography can be seen in a video published in the zoo Facebook page.

Madiba is due to give birth around autumn 2019. This is a great achievement since Pairy Daiza changed two bulls; the first, Pamir, succedeed in getting the other female rhino Eleonore pregnant. The couple had a baby, Sethemba Vasta, in March 2016 and the calf still lives at the zoo: but Pamir did not succeeded with Madiba and nor did the second bull Bantu.

Fortunately, with the third male called Joby that did not have fortune in Montpellier, things changed and both Madiba and Joby are waiting for their first calf.

We hope to hear that even Eleonore could be expecting very soon!
