On 25 June 2018 Southern White Rhino male Otto returned at Colchester Zoo (UK) after more than 18 months spent in Woburn (UK). Otto’s mission was to stir things up in Woburn’s Rhino herd: male Kej and the three females weren’t getting along well, or at least, in the way we hoped. No mating occurred in many times and something needed to be changed. It is not clear if Otto got it or not, but we can confirm that some mating attempts have been observed during the past months.
Otto is now adjusting back to his old environment and he’s ready to meet the son that female Emily had while Otto was away. Zoo Officials do also hope that Otto could get along well with the other young rhino lady, Astrid, and that could bring new baby rhinos.

Edinburgh Zoo (UK) welcomed the first of two new Indian Rhinos on 11 July 2018. It is male Qabid, 2 years and half, born in Planckendael. The young male has just left his mum and is going to start a new life as a bachelor. He could be possibly be joined by another young male in the near future, accordind to Zoo sources. Meanwhile, Qabid is slowing introduced to the new surroundings that will be his new home for many years to come.
