Twycross Zoo, located in central England, is a new Eastern Black Rhinos holder in the European Eastern Black Rhino breeding program for 2019. The Zoo, in fact, welcomed on 12 March 2019 Eastern Black Rhino Nandi from Leipzig (DE).

Nandi is almost 20 years old and has spent all her life in Liepzig, where she gave birth to only one calf in 2013, Samia. Unfortunately, it seems that Nandi has not been able to conceive again since then.

Nandi is of good genetical importance since she has no full-brothers/sisters alive, but she has various near relatives: you can check them in our website using the search box! She was moved hoping that a change in the environment can help her conceiving again.

Her transfer has been carefully planned and a little bit hurried because of the Brexit: the zoo will receive a male companion for her by Easter 2019, but we don’t know where he’s coming from.
