Thanks to Luke P. notice we now know which Eastern Black Rhinos from Dvur Kralove (CZ) will be moved in Rwanda on the next year.
Two of them recently arrived: they are female Olmoti from Flamingo Land (UK) and Mandela from Ebeltoft (DK).
The other three rhinos already resided in Dvur Kralove: they are female Jasmina (9 years old), younger female Jasiri Perla (born in 2016) and the male Manny (born in 2011).
All these five rhinos are relatives: Olmoti’s dad is Jeremy, that is one of the first sons of the matriarch Jessi, one of the oldest female that lives in Dvur Kralove. Jasmina is a Jessi’s daughter too and Jasiri Perla is Jessi’s grand-daughter. Manny’s mom is Jessi’s half-sister, since their dad is the oldest male of Dvur Kralove, Isis. Mandela’s relativness lays way behind, since Jessi is Mandela’s grand-grand-father’s sister.
This choice baffled us since Jasmina and Manny are already adults and Jasmina proved herself a succesfull breeding female. Her son Joe is still in Dvur Kralove. Moreover according to official sources Jasmina is a quite nervous female.
We will wait to see how things will evolve!

The associated parks of Port Lympne and Howletts switched two male Eastern Black Rhinos: Kasungu born in 2015 left his mom Damara and reached his dad Zambezi II in Port Lympne. It is not clear if Kasungu will became a breeding bull there or he will be transferred to another European facility.
Howletts received breeding bull Sammy that left at Port Lympne 5 calves recently born. He will be probably soon introduced to the mature females at Howletts: Damara and Salome.

At last a fantastic news reached us from Australia: precious Southern White Rhino Jamila, 16 years old, has finally made her move from Hamilton Zoo (AU) to Auckland (NZ). Her departure was delayed two months ago since Jamila seemed not to be ready but finally she made it. This is an important move for the regional Australian breeding program since Jamila’s genes are not well represented. Great expectations wait this young lady to become an important breeding female.
