The oldest black rhino in North America is Elly of San Francisco Zoo, as we already told you.
Hailstone is one of Elly’s 13 calves, he was transferred to Asa Zoo, Hiroshima, Japan in 1999.
He fathered 7 calves including Nico, born 2 months ago.
He is a very important male for the new blood line of black rhino in Japan.
One of Hailstone’s calves was named Storm, and the name of Storm’s calf is Rai that means Thunder in Japanese. What a nice naming!
According to Hail’s keeper, he is a very gentle rhino.
His partner Saki‘s mother is the world’s oldest black rhino Hana.
Elly and Hana, Hail has two greatest mums!
