Thanks to Luke P. signalation we can report that oldest Magdeburg Eastern Black Rhino, Mana, was transferred in October 2018 to a new place: Győr Zoo in Hungary. Mana is quite an old lady (post-reproductive) that will spend her last period of life in a brand new exhibit, which is larger than the Magdeburg one. We do not know if this facility, new holder of Eastern Black Rhino from 2018, will welcome other rhinos in the future, but it is likely since the big dimension of the exhibit.

Mana contributed greatly to the European Eastern Black Rhino metapopulation with three daughters that already have calves on their own.

It is said, even if we do not have an official confirmation, that Mana’s older daughter, Malaika, that lives in Magdeburg, is pregnant and due to give birth in 2019.
