Lion Country Safari (Florida, USA) finally welcomed an important Southern White rhino after four years from the last one. Baby Bash, an healty male, was born on 26 September 2019. Both him and his mother Anna are now spending bonding time together in a rhino maternity area, which is visible to guests in cars. Bash’s birth is a great achievement: he is the very first child of a new breeding male called Chitabe (only 7 years old) that is from Disney’s Animal Kingdom (Florida, USA). Moreover he is the very first child of young Anna who is only 6 years old and she is the only breeding female that has given birth recently apart her own mom, Bloom, who has been the only female able to produce calves for 4 years in a crash of 9 females. Being Bash a great joy for us, there’s still space for improvement since there are still 8 females not breeding. It has also been proved that the mom’s presence tends to suppress the estrous cycle of the daughters and, in the facility, there is not only the already cited Bloom and two of her daughters but also other mother and daughter pairs. We really hope there will be changes in the nearby future or this breeding potential could be wasted. There is no need of females importation when you have many of them already in location.

From China a gorgoues news even if we don’t have official details: at Chimelong Safari Park in Panyu, China, a female black rhino (we do not know if an eastern or southern one, probaly the latter) on 2 October 2019 has given birth to an healthy female calf that weighted 34 kilos. We ask any readers that knows more details to contact us through our official channels.
