We are thrilled to report three baby rhino births all over the world, three from Asia and one from Europe. Let’s start!

Singapore Zoo welcomes a baby female rhino
Celebrating World Rhino Day last year, in September, Singapore Zoo Facebook page published a fantastic news: a baby Southern White Rhino calf was born to Shova. The baby, a female, was called Maha and she is the 23rd baby rhino born at the Zoo! Maha is Shova’s eleventh calf and she shares the enclosures with her bigger half-brother Oban, born the year prior to Donsa, the other breeding female rhino that lives at the Zoo.

Baby Rhino male born in China
There is a great news directly from China! Chimelong safari Park, located in Southern China in Guangzhou City, unveils the presence of a baby male Southern White Rhino. He’s nicknamed “Da Zhuang” which means “Big Strong”. He was born last year on 19 June by a first time mother called “Southern Phoenix”or “Nan Feng” that was imported directly from South Africa in 2015. Da Zhuang’s dad is the first rhino born at the Safari Park: his name is Little Prince and was born on 3 March 2009.
It is a great news that a Chinese zoo is involved in the Rhino reproduction, considering that it is really important to sensibilize people about the crisis that affects Rhinos in the wild because of misconceptions about the healing power of a Rhino horn: it is only made by keratin the same materials of human fingernails and hair, with absolutely nor magic nor healing properties.
According to some sources, the park started to introduce Rhinos from South Africa since 1997 and now has 24 White Rhinos and 13 Black Rhinos (we do not know to which subspecies they belong). Moreover, there are two other pregnant rhinos, due to give birth in November 2019 and in the previous months of 2020.
Since we have no more info on this Safari Park, we ask you to help us finding more info. You can contact us through our official channels!

Vietnam has a baby rhino!
Another fantastic news from Vietnam. On 3 April 2019 a baby rhino was born to a Southern White Rhino couple that resides at Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc! We only know that the baby is a female, but no info are available at the moment. Do contact us if you know more about this fantastic birth!

Peaugres (FR) welcomes its fourth male Southern White Rhino!
It is with great happines that we report that Malia gave birth to her first calf, Basile, on 14 April 2019! The name was given in honor of a young guest who was there during the birth (yes, it happened in front of some visitors!).
We are really happy about this birth because at Peaugres the only female that was able to reproduce was Duma: we were afraid that the other two females residing there, Kara and Malia, could be inhibited by her dominance. Luckily some organization changes solved this problems and they leaded to Malia’s pregnancy: in fact she is already 12 years old! Basile’s dad is residing male Samson.
