Bittersweet taste from Borås Zoo, a Facility located in southern Sweden. As we reported, in September 2016, female Southern White Rhino Mashikishiki gave birth to her very first calf, a female called Bishara. This precious young female, unfortunately, died in March this years, at 1 and half year old. Official sources report that Bishara’s death was accidental: it is probable that her mum, Mashikishiki, reacted abruptly to something that maybe scared her. She suddenly turned around  and her baby could have been struck by her. The autopsy showed that Bishara had her spinal cord broken, around the area of the neck.

The sweet part of the news is that mum Mashikishiki gave birth to her second calf, a healthy male called Nagasi, on 14 November 2018.

Here you can see the very first pictures of the new arrival at the Facility.
