Ramat Gan (IL) welcomed three weeks ago a new baby Southern White Rhino!

Mum Tanda, 25 years old, delivered her new baby perfectly on time, because she has given birth to all her last three calves during the months of August ( so we do suspect her to be expecting!).

Keepers saw Tanda and Atari mating 18 months ago and they also were hoping for a new pregnancy. The fact that the new calf is a healthy female that weighted 50 kg doubles the joy, since the females are scheduled to remain in the safari to continue the breeding program of Ramat Gan. This new girl, whose name will start with the letter “T”, is the 30th baby rhino born in the Facility.

Mum Tanda is an experienced mother, since she has previously given birth to five other calves, of which three are surviving (males Terkel and Tupak, and female Teshi). Last year her older calf, a male called Tibor, died at 10 years of age, because of trauma after a fight with an older male. Terkel, insted, was transferred, along with his uncle Zion to a new facility located in Russia, Rostov-on-Don.
