At Hilvarenbeek, a southern Dutch town along the border of Belgium, lies Safari Park Beekse Bergen which is home to both Eastern Black Rhino and Southern White Rhinos. The Facility is also the official “headquarter” of the European Southern White Rhino Breeding Program!

On 7 October 2020 a marvelous little baby Southern White Rhino was born in the large breeding crash. And he was born to a female rhino which is also 5 and half years old! Mum Sofie, the youngest of the herd, gave birth without any complication to her first son during the night hours. Her baby, a male, was called Ravy. Limpopo should be the new calf’s dad, a third for him.

It is really curious that, among different potential breeding females, the youngest has successfully became a mother while from the other no news of pregnancy came since 2017. Anyway, it is a marvelous good news!
