There was a lot of anticipation for the birth of the very first Eastern Black Rhino in Wales and finally the end is over! First time mum Dakima, born in Chester (UK) less than 7 years ago, gave birth during the night of 16 January 2020 to a healthy baby boy in Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo. The birth went quite smoothly, with mum Dakima a little bit tired in the end, but the calf was up on his feet very soon after the process.
Dad Nkosi, even a first time dad, will not meet the baby since, as Black Rhino dads do in the wild, he won’t help raising the calf.
At the moment, mum and baby are behind the scene, not viewable to public, till some day in the future.

Dakima’s calf is the fourth male Eastern Black Rhino born in Europe (at least, known to be) in a row since January 2019.
More curiosly, is that Dakima’s calf is the third born (at least, known to be!) during the night of 16 January 2020! The other two are both Southern White Rhino calves and they are the one born in Arnhem (NL) to mum Kwanzaa and the one born in Florida (USA) to mum Kidogo.
