Here we are with a brand new article directly from our Japanese gorgeous WorldRhino Teammate Yuko. She’ll tell us about a fantastic initiative for Rhinos!
“I am a Japanese woman who loves rhinoceros, I hope rhinos can be protected from extinction.
I am working on a new project to make many people aware of the rhino poaching problem.
I have choosen March as a month to raise awareness of Rhino horn consumption problem in Asia, causing rhino poaching in Africa.
I named it Asian RHINO MARCH.
Because rhino poaching is continuing, I don’t think that “World Rhino Day” on September 22 alone will be enough to focus on the rhino crisis.
March is just half a year from September and March also has the meaning of walking together.
So, I planned to hold RHINO MARCH events in three zoos in Japan and I have been preparing for them.
However, unfortunately all those events have been canceled because of the temporary closing of zoos due to the Coronavirus problem.
For these events, I was planning to display 594 Origami Rhinos (I made alone!) which is the number of poached rhinos in South Africa last year, in order to give a visual indication of the severity of rhino poaching. Also, I intended to teach visitors to make Origami rhino and have fun!
So the RHINO MARCH logo includes Origami Rhinos.
Instead of a canceled events at Japanese zoos, I’d like to spread the word about Asian RHINO MARCH.
This month, on March, please post a lot about rhino crisis to have people around the world know it,
And if you post about rhino on March, please tag #RHINOMARCH !
I would be very happy if you could do so.”
