The unbelievable happened. Unidentified people broke into Thoiry (FR) during the night between 6 and 7 March 2017 and managed to kill Vince, before removing his horn with a chainsaw.

We are very saddened by this news. We couldn’t believe it was possible to penetrate into a zoo in this way. We felt that it was the safest place to have these animals guarded. But tonight proved us otherwise.

We don’t know what this will bring in the future, maybe a hardening in security measures in facilities, but as per now a sense of sadness lives with us.
