Today we’d like to talk about a special Eastern Black Rhino. His name was Kabisa.

Kabisa was born back in 1985 in Cincinnati (Ohio,USA), but spent almost all of his life in Chicago Brookfield (Illinois,USA) where he contributed to his endangered species conceiving two calves that are still alive nowadays: Johari and Kizuri. While Kizuri resides in Caldwell (Texas,USA), Johari resides in Arkansas, where he was joined recently by a female, Andazi. The expectation about a Kabisa’s grandchild is very high!

After the birth, Kabisa was sadly rejected by his mother and needed to be hand-reared. As a results, he was very friendly towards people. He was the rhino that visitors would meet on the behind the scenes tours.
According to the ones who had the privilege to meet and know him, Kabisa was a really sweet fellow with a deep skill in painting. He was able to use his mobile upper lip to paint pictures for Zoo guests!
He really enjoyed relaxing massages and every training session with him always went flawlessly.

Moreover, Kabisa had a peculiarity which is very rare in wild animals that contributed to make him more unique: he had blue eyes!

Kabisa is survived by a full-brother called Isis, who is the oldest male Eastern Black Rhino that resides in Europe.

Kabisa passed away in November 2012.
