After many months of sickness, Sudan was euthanyzed on Monday 19 Mar 2018. He left behind the only two Northern White Rhino females (both him related), his daughter Najin and his grand-daughter Fatu both incapable of breed.

The last hope for this specie/sub-specie of rhino (it depends on what taxonomy you choose) relies on in-vitro tecniques. San Diego (California) and Europe are working in order to obtain another white rhino baby in the future.
