With heavy hearts we report the sad news that the very first Indian Rhino born and raised in Australia died on Saturday 23 September 2017.

Rajah fell ill last week and Vet Team and Keepers tried all their best to make him recovery. The diagnosis was Tetanus, a disease caused by bacteria called Chlostridium tetani, and besides all the efforts Rajah’s conditions worsened over the week end. It was took the hard decision to end his suffering.

Rajah was born in 2015 to mum Amala and dad Dora and has lived in Taronga Western Plain Zoo since then.
