Joy is overwhelming us! Buin Zoo, located in Chile, has just announced the very first birth of a Southern White Rhino in its history.
On 27 July 2017, at 13:32, without any human help, mum Hannah gave birth to a perfect healthy male calf. The baby was born after 30 minuts labor and was up on his feet very soon. He weighted 62 kilos.

Hannah is showing a perfect maternal behaviour and the baby is growing up fast.

The name choosen for the baby is Pantalèon, honoring the Catholic saint of the day he was born.

For both parents, Oliver and Hannah is the very first calf. They both came in Chile from South Africa in 2013 at the age of 3. The hope was for them to become a breeding pair. They showed us they are and hope they will be in the future!
