Monarto Zoo lost its youngest Southern White Rhino female, Tundu, on 26 April 2017.

According to zoo the veterinary team is awaiting the results of laboratory tests in order to understand what led to her death: “preliminary results indicate Tundu had some bruising on her ribs and experienced significant internal blood loss from a trauma injury, likely caused by the other rhinos. One possible scenario is that Tundu may have been wedged between two older rhinos during rough play, which led to her sustaining these injuries”.

Tundu was born on 12 Sep 2015 to Umqali and Satara. Zoo assures the crash is doing well.
