Rock, the oldest male white rhino in Japan, aged 45, died of old age at Fukuoka City Zoo on 29 October 2016.
He was fine and had a good appetite until the previous evening;  when the keeper went to see Rock next morning, he was already dead.

Rock (#510) was born in the wild in Africa in 1971 and came to Fukuoka City Zoo in 1976.

Just six months before his death, the zoo celebrated the 40th anniversary of his coming to Fukuoka City Zoo.

Rock was a calm, gentle and sweetheart rhino: many zoo visitors are sad for his passing!

Many thanks to Worldrhino teammates Kabechoro (for Rock’s pictures) and Yuko Imaizumi for the article.
