The signs were these: going back and forth without rest, alternatively lying down and getting up, Flehmen response, contraction of legs and the abdomen… yes, the birth was impending!
Closely monitored by Keepers, during the night of 5 February 2017, at 1:03 a.m., Indian Rhino Manjula, in Plzen (CZ) gave birth to her second baby, again a female!
The baby was helped to reach mum’s brest where she could get the precious colostrum, rich in antibodies.
The little female was born after a pregnancy that last 486 days and weighted 47 kg ( 8 kg less than her sister, Maruska).
The unnamed calf’s dad is Baabuu.
Congratulations to Plzen Staff that welcome its second Indian Rhino birth in its history!
